Hiring a Wedding Consultant
Planning the wedding is certainly part of the joy of preparing for marriage. But sometimes couples just don't have the time, the resources, or the interest to organize such an important celebration themselves and want to be spared the hassle.
The planning process can be practically worry-free with the help of a professional consultant. Within the past few years the demand for trained wedding coordinators has skyrocketed, since most couples plan and pay for their wedding themselves and often have to plan the event from one city while living elsewhere. Mature couples, and those marrying for a second time, often use the services of consultants. They're already gone through the planning process before and don't want to do it again, or they have the financial resources to let an expert plan a special themed celebration or destination wedding. Consultants are becoming recognized as highly specialized, highly regarded business professionals. While wedding consultants were once hired primarily by the rich and famous, today they are engaged by anyone who simply needs an extra set of hands, business savvy, and knowledge of local vendors who can create magic from any budget.
Ideally a consultant can save you time, worry, and stress, and help you avoid making costly mistakes. Most have extensive resources at their fingertips and are also skilled in the machanics' of party planning: choosing vendors, negotiating contracts, locating the perfect antique veil or table linens, booking a reception site, or flying in tropical flowers in the exact shade of yellow the bride fancies. They know local price ranges for various services and how to map out a realistic budget.
What DO Consultants know?
Planning many weddings each year gives consultants the inside track on which local vendors are cream of the crop. A competent consultant will know the latest wedding trends, resources at different price ranges, and the florists, photographers, etc., who have proved themselves to be consistently dependable and outstanding in their fields.
Consultants can do as much, or as little, as you choose. They may be hired on an hourly or project basis, anywhere from one or three initial planning sessions to coordinating the entire wedding from engagement party through honeymoon itinerary.
